Duddingston Golf Club
Duddingston Golf Club

Duddingston Golf Club is situated in the heart of Scotland’s capital city, Edinburgh, close to Holyrood Palace, Scotland’s Parliament and all of the old town’s famous tourist attractions. The course enjoys easy access to the City By-pass which connects to all of the main routes east, west, south and north. In the late 1800’s golf courses were being established all over Scotland and in 1895 the financial community set up the Insurance & Banking Golf Club at the Duddingston estate. The land, part of a former deer estate, has many links with Scotland’s history including in 1745, prior to the Battle of Prestonpans, the encampment of the cavalry of Charles Edward Stuart, Bonnie Prince Charlie, in an area adjoining the course and known today as Cavalry Park. Owned by the Duke of Abercorn the estate was set on the east flank of Edinburgh, beneath the spectacular backdrop of the 823 feet high extinct volcano Arthur’s Seat. The area was considered by the club’s founding architect Willie Park to be of a size that would make a “first class course”. Well over 100 years later those that have been fortunate enough to play it would surely agree. The course was extended in the 1960’s and 1970’s by John Shade and Bill Biggar and, with the addition of the new tee at the 12th hole, now measures 6525 yards – a true test of golf. The gently undulating parkland course (in Gaelic Duddingston means ‘sunny side of the hill’) is maintained to a high standard throughout the year and is considered one of the most outstanding parkland courses in the Lothians. Joining the Scottish Golf Noticeboard Business Networking Edinburgh City event will give you not only a fantastic opportunity to showcase your business in Edinburgh but will introduce you to a core network of Golfers in business like yourself and an opportunity to play the stunning Duddinston Golf Club while building a network and making friends.

The East Course was designed by James Braid to Championship standards, and is a monster from the Championship tees. For members’ competitions and corporate events, it’s a more manageable 6,684 yards, but is still a formidable challenge. The West Course is the shorter of the two but is still a good test of golf. There is a good mix of shorter par 4’s and par 3’s, alongside some very tough par 4’s and a par 5 which is the longest on either course. King's Golf Club
King's Golf Club

The Kings Golf Club was established in 2019 having emerged from the demise of the old Torvean Golf Club (Est. c1962). The development of the expanding City of Inverness forced the closure of Torvean Golf course to make way for new roads and bridges over the Caledonian Canal. A new course was designed by Stuart Rennie incorporating land previously used by the Old Torvean course thus ensuring an eternal connection. Remnants of an Iron Age fortress can be found on a nearby hilly crag atop of Craig Phadraig, overlooking the golf course. The site of a mighty bastion of early Pictish Kings with clear views over what was to become, the Capital of the Highlands, it is believed to be the seat of King Brude. King Brude (Bridei mac Maelchu c. 555-584), was a King of many Pictish Kingdoms and mentioned by the venerable St Bede as being “Rex Potentissimus” – the most powerful of Kings. Three sites of archaeological interest have been excavated at different locations, suggesting this may well be an area on which the Kings followers lived. It is believed St. Columba camped close to the River Ness west of Inverness whilst waiting for an audience with the King and perhaps on the very land the course now occupies. The historical importance of the land could not be ignored and a vote was carried to rename the club as the King Golf Club, Inverness. The new course was officially opened on 30th August 2019 with Bernard Gallacher OBE driving the first ball – ironically down what had been the Old Torvean 18th fairway. A modern clubhouse boasting spectacular views over the first tee and eighteenth green compliments the 18 Hole Championship Golf Course. In the first year of opening it was rated 74th in Scotland by ‘Top 100 Golf Courses’ and 12th in the North of Scotland, an incredible accolade. https://www.google.co.uk/imgres?
