RETURN OF THE DUNCAN BOWL

In 1934 the Duncan Bowl 36 Hole Scratch Open was first played here at Duddingston Golf Club. An event that would go on to become a much sought after title in the Lothians as well as being a popular, prestigious, and well-known event on the Scottish circuit. Over the years the Duncan Bowl has seen some of the greats of Scottish Amateur scene get their hands, and name, on the impressive trophy. The most notables being former Walker Cup Captain, George MacGregor who was a 5-Time Duncan Bowl winner and 5-Time Scottish Amateur Champion, and Duddingston Icon, Ronnie Shade who won the Duncan Bowl 4-Times at the peak of his powers.
Like many similar events, despite its history and legacy, the Duncan Bowl began to suffer from poor participation which initially saw it reduce from two rounds to just an 18 Hole scratch competition, before finally being amalgamated with the Duddingston Handicap Open and awarded to the ‘Lowest Gross’ on the day.
However, everyone connected with Duddingston Golf Club feel now is the time to resurrect this great championship back to it`s former glory, and provide elite golfers more competitive opportunity, by giving it something of a modern facelift.
