The 2024 Super Seniors International Masters tournament at Glasgow Gailes was hailed by players as a resounding success, producing three days of highly competitive and enjoyable golf on a course in excellent condition.
The winner of the Masters Trophy was Oscar O’Herlihy, Basingstoke GC, with rounds of 78, 75 and 71. Runner-up Andrew Stracey, Denholm GC, had the same three-round total of 224 but was pipped at the post by virtue of Oscar having the better third round by a single stroke. The bronze medal went to Richard Partridge, Wildernesse GC, with a total of 226 for the three rounds.
The winner of the Handicap Masters Trophy was Steve Hawke, Shifnel GC, with a three-round total of 206. Paul Lamb, Newbury and Crookham GC, was runner-up on 208, with local player Keith Ross picking up the bronze medal on 212.
In the 70-74 age category, Alan Mew triumphed in the scratch section and wins the gold medal.
Jalil Aman, Grangemouth GC won the 70-74 handicap gold medal with Billy Mitchell, Hankley Common GC collecting the silver medal for second and Hugh Purvis, Long Ashton GC picking up the bronze medal for third.
In the scratch 75 and over age group, SSGS stalwart Gordon MacDonald took the gold medal with a three-round total of 238.
In the 75 and over handicap section, the winnerof the gold medal was Martin Lee Frilford Heath, with long-standing SSGS veterans and twins Peter and Jim Kinloch, Cardross GC, finishing second and third for solver and bronze medals respectively.
At the presentation of prizes, John Fraser, captain of the Scottish Super Seniors, thanked all the competitors and organisers for an excellent three days of highly-enjoyable and keenly contested golf. He congratulated all medal and voucher winners and paid special thanks to Glasgow Golf Club and staff for hosting the event, their warm hospitality and the first-class condition of the course.
