  • Rising Scottish golf star makes sensational start to 2026 on Turkey trip

    16/01/2026

      By Martin Dempster - The Scotsman

      16-year-old Aidan Lawson beats an Open champion and Open Silver Medal winner by eight shots

      Aidan Lawson, one of Scottish golf’s rising stars, is hoping his eye-catching start to 2026, having come out on top in a head-to-head battle with both an Open champion and Open Silver Medal winner, is a sign of things to come this year.

      Not for the first time, the 16-year-old, a Queensferry High School pupil who is a member of Bruntsfield Links in Edinburgh, underlined his potential during a warm weather training camp in Turkey organised by the Paul Lawrie Foundation

      Aidan Lawson pictured playing in The R&A Junior Open at Kilmarnock (Barassie) in 2024 | The R&A

      Held at Gloria Golf Resort in Belek, the trip saw Lawson and fellow up-and-coming players Cormac Sharpe, Fraser Brown, Kai Laing and Ollie Robertson join 1999 Open champion Lawrie and Calum Scott, the 2024 Open Silver Medal winner, for a mix of practice and competition play.

      After 54 holes, Scott, who turned professional last year, led by a shot from both Lawson and Lawrie on eight under before Lawson signed off with a three-under 69 while Lawrie and Scott closed with scores of 77 and 78 respectively.

      “I played really well over the four rounds,” admitted Lawson, who only found out about the trip just before Christmas but jumped at the chance. “I only made six bogeys the whole week, kept it in play off the tee the whole event and had 16 birdies.

      ‘Yeah, it was pretty sweet’

      “It felt really nice as I played with Paul and Calum the last two rounds. When you are standing there on the first tee with an Open champion and a guy who has won the Silver Medal, it can feel a bit daunting. But I got off to good starts in both rounds and kept it and ended up winning by eight shots. Yeah, it was pretty sweet!”

  • Cameron Adam wins St Andrews Links Trophy

    10/06/2025
      Incredibly proud of this young man who first joined our Foundation as a 9-year-old back in 2012.
      Since then, he’s gone on to achieve so much—winning multiple SGF and National titles, and eventually becoming an SGF Ambassador.
      What makes him truly special is not just his success on the course, but his continued commitment to giving back—always willing to support and inspire the next generation of young golfers.
      His incredible win at the St Andrews Links Trophy this weekend was a standout moment, and fingers crossed it leads to Walker Cup selection later this year.
      He’s not just someone the kids can look up to in golf—but in life as well.

  • Paul Lawrie and Stephen Gallacher tee up warm weather training trips for up and coming Scottish golfers

    21/03/2025
      By Martin Dempster - The Scotsman

      Camps in Turkey and Spain aimed at helping Scottish youngsters shake off winter rust

      Paul Lawrie and Stephen Gallacher are both continuing to play a part in the development of up-and-coming Scottish golfers by holding separate warm weather training camps in the build up to the 2025 amateur season.

      Through being part of the Paul Lawrie Academy programme, four youngsters from the North and North-East spent a week in Turkey last week honing their games under the watchful eye of coach Spencer Henderson.

      In a similar set up, the Stephen Gallacher Foundation is taking a group of 16 players out to Spain later this week to work with swing coaches Ian Rae and Alyson McKechkin, as well as golf strength and conditioning coach Chris Hair and sports psychologist Dr John Pates.

      The two camps are aimed at helping Scottish players shake off any winter rust before the start of the new season in the Scottish Boys’ and Girls’ Open at West Kilbride and Arbroath Links respectively next month.

      Five players are currently part of the Paul Lawrie Academy but, with Cruden Bay’s Koby Buchan at university out in the US at the moment, the trip to Gloria Golf in Belek was made by Deeside duo Ollie Robertson and Oli Blackadder, Boyd Gray (Duff House Royal) and Nairn’s Fraser Brown.

      “It is a year-long programme, with most of the sessions being held during the winter,” said Henderson, Scottish Golf’s men’s performance coach but wearing his Paul Lawrie Golf Centre senior instructor hat for this particular assignment.

      “Paul attends just about every session we have in Scotland, either playing with the guys, working with them on their short game or passing on his knowledge of playing in the Ryder Cup and what it is like coming down the stretch in The Open.

    10/02/2025
      TAIN and ROYAL DORNOCH EVENT:
      Our first event this year has already attracted a massive number of entries, and entries are still open for another month!!
      Due to daylight issues, we can only accommmodate 66 entries, so unfortunately, handicap ballots will need to be held throughout the various Boys age groups. In the circumstances, there will unfortunately be no availability for Boys U21. Incredibly, so far, 30% of entries are from players joining the Junior Tour Family for the first time, and this is absolutely fantastic news.
      We don't envisage too many ballots for our other events during the course of the season.

    19/12/2024
      MESSAGE TO EVERYONE:
      Before Santa arrives, and the excitement and chaos that will ensue, I would like to wish everyone a Merry Christmas, and a Happy, Successful, and Healthy New Year.
      The Junior Tour continues to grow year on year, and we are absolutely delighted with our popularity and high levels of participation. However, there are lots of reasons why we can be so proud of our achievements so far;
      1. The players and their families who comprise the Junior Tour Family;
      2. The incredible support of our partners and supporters, both home and abroad, including our two anonymous benefactors;
      3. The goodwill and support of the fantastic venues that we visit, and;
      4. The small team of Junior Tour volunteers whose dedication and commitment are simply astounding; WITHOUT THE ABOVE, THERE WOULD BE NO JUNIOR TOUR.
      The levels of enquiries from various parts of GB & I, and also abroad, has been exponential this time round, and we very much look forward to welcoming more new faces into the Junior Tour Family; this makes us very very proud.
      Our schedule for 2025 is again super exciting, and we are once again visiting top class venues. It also includes a return visit to the outstanding SANTANDER GOLF CLUB, in Madrid, who are hosting our OOM Final, as well as our annual Match versus the Madrid Golf Federation in October. Prior to the season starting, a group of players are descending on the Penina Golf Resort, in the Algarve, for five days in February, for a bit of competitive practice/playing on the World renowned Championship Course; SO, YES, LOTS TO BE EXCITED ABOUT, AND STAY TUNED FOR MORE EXCITING NEWS COMING YOUR WAY SOON👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
      Paul,
      On behalf of the Junior Tour Team

    04/10/2024
      FORTROSE & ROSEMARKIE POST EVENT REPORT:
      The Black Isle is famous for many things, and is also home to Fortrose & Rosemarkie Golf Club. It is a truly fantastic golf course, and its setting is simply majestic. The journey for many up the A9 is not as daunting as some suggest, and when you arrive at your destination, you realise that the miles travelled have been very much worth it.
      We were very lucky with the weather, and the course was in outstanding condition; in fact, everything about our event was first class, and sincere thanks are due to Club Manager Mike McDonald, the committee of the Golf Club, the Pro Shop Team, the catering team, and last but not least, the Greenkeepers, for laying on a venue that was simply excellent. Their continued support of the Junior Tour is very much appreciated.
      The overall Boys winner was local Boy, JACK MANN. After a sluggish start in Round 1, shooting 74 (+3), followed by a solid level par round of 71 in Round 2, he kept his best for Round 3, where he shot a superb 66 (-5). His 54 hole total 211 (-2) won by 7 shots from Martin Shone from Switzerland. This was an excellent performance from JT Ambassador Mann, and comes on the back of a few very solid performances recently in other events.
      The over Girls winner was SUMMER ELLIOT (Inverness Golf Club), with a 54 hole total of 222 (+9). Summer was the model of consistency with Rounds of 74, 75 and 73. This rounded off a very successful season for Summer, who has been in the winners circle a few times during 2024. Summer won by 2 shots from another JT Ambassador, Erin Huskie (Stirling Golf Club), who has also been a very consistent performer during 2024.
      It was once again fantastic to see more newcomers to the Junior Tour, and their positive feedback was very much appreciated.
      Last but not least, huge thanks to Kathy, Alan and John for their continued help and support at all times.
      Paul,
      On behalf of the Junior Tour Team

  • Paul Lawrie Foundation 2024

    13/08/2024

       The aim of the Foundation is to get as many young people playing golf as possible and who knows, maybe one day we will see our youngsters winning on tour, or even winning a Major championship!

      Through competitive events including Stablefords, Match Play, Stroke Play and Flags, the Foundation exists to help as many young people as possible to begin playing golf and having fun in the process.

      From April to October we host these competitions at clubs across Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire to give juniors in a variety of age ranges (from around 7 years old up to 18) a chance to play at some of the fantastic courses we have on our doorstep. We want to ensure that the newest players get a chance to appreciate what golf has to offer, whilst allowing those with a little more experience the chance to develop their game.

      With guidance from Paul and the Foundation team of PGA Professionals, juniors receive the benefit of their wisdom to help improve their game but also a wider appreciation of the sport and the etiquette that governs it.

      More than anything, the Foundation offers access to clubs, games, support and a network of other players.

      So have a look around at what we do and if you fancy trying it, sign-up for one of our upcoming events. We’d love to see you at a Paul Lawrie Foundation event!

      Congratulations to Finlay Hazelwood from Carnoustie Caledonia who won the SGF National Matchplay this afternoon in an exciting match with Fraser Masting of Turnhouse.
      Finlay took an early lead yet Fraser managed to keep in touch and was 2 down after 12, but his drive at 15 caught the heavy rough and Fraser lost the hole to go dormie 3 down. Back came Fraser winning both 16 & 17 to take the game down the last hole however Finlay hit 2 great shots into the middle of the green to clinch the match.
      A great game played in great spirits gave us a great champion.
      Congratulations to all who played and a big thank you to Castle Park for hosting us once again and to all the volunteers. 👏👏👏
