  • North East Alliance - Newburgh Golf Club / 21st January 2026

    22/01/2026
      North East Alliance 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿⛳️
      Newburgh Golf Club
A decent day by Alliance standards at Newburgh today.
A steady 45 mph across the course and intermittent heavy rain attracted the real winter hardened souls out onto the links today.
Well done to amateur player Adam Giles (Murcar Links Golf Club) with today’s winning score of 71(-1) - a superb score in the atrocious conditions. Adam won by 5 shots from another amateur John Borthwick (Marshall Leisure - Craibstone Golf) on 76(+4).
      Adam had 4 birdies at 4,5,6 & 10 with 3 drops coming at 1,14,17 - while John had 3 birdies at 7,9 & 14 with drops at 1,5,8,17 & 18 with also a double bogey 7 at the 3rd hole.

Well done to all the players who battled hard today… hopefully the weather is kinder next week at beautiful Spey Bay Golf Club 👍⛳️

  • North East Alliance - Cruden Bay Golf Club 14/01/2026

    16/01/2026
      North East Alliance 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿⛳️
A welcome return to the Alliance from the snow as the first meeting of 2026 got underway at a chilly Cruden Bay.
Due to the overnight freezing temperatures the Cruden Bay Links was played on the short winter course today with a par of 68.
The course in the cold conditions with winter greens was playing tricky - hard unpredictable bounces and difficult putting.
Scottish Alliance Champion Professional Philip McLean (Peterhead Golf Club) somehow managed to get round in 65(-3) which was a superb score and good enough to win by 3 shots from local professional Declan Addison on 68(eve).
Philip had a fair haul of 6 birdies at 1,2,6,7,11,15 and 1 eagle at the par 4 17th - holing his 2nd shot from 40yards. He had 5 drops at 3,4,5,13 & 16.
The committee would like to thank Cruden Bay Golf Club for looking after the players today - course presented very well amid difficult conditions and fantastic catering in the clubhouse.

Next week the Alliance will visit Newburgh Golf Club 👍⛳️.

      Portlethen Golf Club
A final farewell from winter today with a strong cold wind with wintry showers at Portlethen for the final round of the championship.
With a familiar name winning the Uniroyal Trophy - Open Champion Paul Lawrie shot a superb 66(-5) and added to his 67(-3) at Fraserburgh Golf Club last week was good enough to win by a convincing 3 shots from Professional Dan Toogood (Myrus Golf Centre)
on 136(-5) - Dan also had a very impressive round of 67(-4) today in the difficult conditions.
Paul played a bogie free round today with five birdies at 1,2,5,6 and finished in style with a birdie at the Par5 18th hole.
The two time Ryder Cup hero was pleased with his round saying that he “Played lovely”and felt he should have been better as he three putted both Par 5’s (4th and 13th) for par and missed a few more good chances but nevertheless it was a very good score in the conditions. Paul also paid tribute to Portlethen Golf Club saying the course was in good condition considering recent rain 👍
Congratulations to all the trophy winners during the Championship - all scores and winners are listed below.
A final heartfelt thanks from the NE Alliance committee and all the players to all the wonderful Golf Clubs who allow us to play every Wednesday - we all really appreciate your support 🙌

  • North East Alliance - Spey Bay Golf Club 26/02/2025 Results

    28/02/2025
The final meeting of the season was played today at the wonderful true Hidden Gem links at Spey Bay Golf Club in the best weather of the season with beautiful sunshine and not a breath of wind.
A rare appearance by Open Champion Paul Lawrie, and did not dissapoint as the Scottish Golf Legend cruised to a joint victory with Professional Declan Addison (Cruden Bay Golf Club) both going round the testing layout in 69(-1).
Paul never looked like getting out of 3rd gear but still managed to make his round look easy. A slow start with bogies at 3,5 and later at 13 but fought back with an Eagle at the Par 5 9th hole - quickly followed with a birdie on 10 and 15.
Declan with only two drops at 1 and 14 - also managed to Eagle the 9th and finished in style with a birdie on the Par 4 18th.
Huge thanks to Bert Mackay and his team for hosting us today - fantastic hospitality and the golf course is outstanding 👏

Next week is the first round of the Alliance Championship and will be played at Fraserburgh Golf Club 👍⛳️

      North East Alliance 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿⛳️
      Newmachar Golf Club
The penultimate meeting of the season today at the Swailend course at Newmachar Golf Club.
A blustery day with gusts reaching 45mph but overall playable despite the Baltic temperatures - the course was in very good condition after the recent bout of wet weather.
Professional Kris Nicol (Fraserburgh Golf Club) won today with a very good round of 69(-3) in the testing conditions.
Kris played steady during his round with the key being his driving. With 4 birdies at 3,9,11 and 18 and one drop at the par 3 12th hole. Notably Kris hit two fantastic shots to the par 5 8th hole - playing straight into the strong wind his 2nd shot landed in the middle of the green but ran over the back and into the water hazard - where he duly pitched and putted to save his par.
Kris won by one shot from Professional Alan Stuart (Paul Lawrie Golf Centre) and Royal Aberdeen Golf Club amateur player Stephen Burt both going round in a very respectable 70(-2).
The North East Alliance committee and all the players would like to thank Newmachar Golf Club for stepping in as a venue today at short notice and also for looking after everyone with the excellent catering in the clubhouse 👌

Next week is the final meeting of the season and will be played at the beautiful links at Spey Bay Golf Club followed by the NE Alliance Championship in March 👍⛳️

Flat calm, beautiful sunshine, full course… a perfect day all in all at Newburgh Golf Club.
With 14 players shooting Par or better it was certainly one of the lower scoring days with the greens running beautifully for the time of year.
Royal Aberdeen Golf Club amateur player Paul Booth won for the second time in 3 weeks with an excellent 67(-5). Paul won by one shot from another amateur Adam Giles (Murcar Links Golf Club) on 68(-4).
The committee and players would like to extend thanks to Newburgh Golf Club for hosting today. The course was in fantastic condition and the catering was excellent.

    24/01/2025
      North East Alliance⛳️
      Cruden Bay Golf Club
A tricky welcome for the early starters today at Cruden Bay. Hard overnight frost meant the shorter winter course was in play. Something more like ice hockey rather than golf for the first few groups as it was borderline impossible to control the ball when it landed.
With the temperature slowly rising the course softened towards late morning and with no wind gave perfect playing conditions - albeit on the temporary frost greens.
The greens however had decent surfaces but were also very tricky on some difficult slopes.
Professional Philip McLean (Peterhead Golf Club) came out on top today with a strong finish to shoot a very solid round of 65(-2). Philip had 4 birdies at 4, 16, 17, 18 and dropped at 3 & 5.
Philip won by one shot from the in-form amateur player John Borthwick Marshall Leisure - Craibstone Golf with a very good 66(-1).
The players and committee would like extend thanks to Cruden Bay Golf Club and the staff for hosting today and providing excellent catering and hospitality 👌

Next week the Alliance will visit Fraserburgh Golf Club 👍

  • NE Alliance - Peterhead Golf Club / Wednesday 15th January 2025

    16/01/2025
It’s great to be back… after all the cold weather the players were greeted with a pretty much mild and benign day - for Peterhead - with a nice light breeze and beautiful sunshine on the very welcome first meeting of the year.
The course was in very good condition considering all the ice and snow which covered the links only a few days ago.
A new year and a different look at the top of the leaderboard today with Royal Aberdeen Golf Club amateur player Paul Moir taking the honours with an impressive round of 65(-5) winning by 2 shots from Deeside Golf Club Professional Kevin Duncan and another amateur John Borthwick (Marshall Leisure - Craibstone Golf) both shooting very good rounds of 67(-3).

    20/11/2024
Perfect golfing conditions again today at Newmachar Golf Club’s Swailend course. Nice temperatures and no wind made it a birdie fest among today’s leaders.
For the third week in a row professional Liam Waldron (Paul Lawrie Golf Centre) wins the alliance - this time with a sublime round of 64(-8). Liam reduced the course to nothing more than a pitch & putt with some massive drives of well over 300 yards and also a brilliant touch around the greens.
With 9 birdies at 1,6,8,9,11,12,13,15 & 17 and his only drop coming at 2 it was good enough to win by only one shot from playing partner professional Philip McLean (Peterhead Golf Club) on an equally impressive round of 65(-7). Philip made a charge at Liam on the back 9 coming home in 30(-6) with a brilliant display of golf but it was not to be after just missing his birdie attempt on 18 to tie Liam.
The Swailend course was in fantastic condition for the time of year with optional matts and preferred lies in operation.
Next week the alliance will visit Peterhead Golf Club 👍⛳️

Thank you to everyone at Lundin Golf Club for looking after us today. It was the coldest day we have had by far this winter but it was still a stunning day, as you can see from the photo taken as we finished our round. Congratulations to Paul & Colin for the winning scores.

      ROUND 3 WIGTOWNSHIRE COUNTY
With the weather turning wet and miserable 57 competitors took to the links of Wigtownshire County Golf Club. With the reports coming from the competitors that the course was outstanding and some even saying "it's the best condition they have ever saw it in" credit must go to all the staff for making it so good. The scoring reflected the condition of the course, but the wet conditions made it a challenge.

  • North East Alliance - Aboyne Golf Club 23/10/2024

    27/10/2024
A perfect autumnal day for golf at Aboyne Golf Club today. A decent test for the players off the back tees with some tough and tricky holes but also a few birdies to be had as well.
One for the amateurs today with John Borthwick (Craibstone Golf Club) winning with a nice round of 69(+1). John had birdies at the Par 5 7th & 10th holes and also at the Par 4 17th - with drops at 5&6 and also an unfortunate double bogey 5 at the 235 yard Par 3 18th hole he has still managed to stretch his lead at the top of the OoM.
John won by one shot from one of the senior members - Iain Middleton (Royal Aberdeen Golf Club) playing off 2 handicap and shooting a very good round of 70(+2).
Spare a thought for the leading professional today - Kevin Duncan (Deeside Golf Club) shot a 71 despite 6 penalty shots and a memorable 18th hole where his tee shot carried into the open door of the clubhouse kitchen and ricocheted off the fridge back out the door finishing 20 yards short of the green whereupon Kevin chipped to 20ft and rolled in the putt for an easy Par 👍
Next week the Alliance will visit Portlethen Golf Club 👍⛳️

  • Kevin Duncan wins North East Alliance at Newburgh

    26/09/2024
A warm and sunny autumn day with no wind gave perfect scoring conditions today at Newburgh in the fourth meeting of the season.
The course was in superb condition with fast smooth greens and had no defence against Alliance protagonist Kevin Duncan - Professional from Deeside Golf Club in firing an excellent bogey free round of 67(-5). Kevin had 5 birdies at 1,3,15,17,18 which was good enough to win by 3 shots from amateur player Ian Still (Marshall Leisure - Craibstone Golf) on 70(-2).
The Alliance committee and players would like to thank Newburgh Golf Club for stepping in at short notice due to Ellon Golf Club not being able to host at the last minute.
Next week is the Scottish Alliance Championship which takes place at Mortonhall Golf Club in Edinburgh - the North East Alliance will return in two weeks at Banchory Golf Club 👍⛳️

  • NE Alliance - Newmacher Golf Club / Wednesday 18th September 2024

    19/09/2024
Newmachar’s Hawkshill course provided a difficult test for the players today.
With very fast greens, some questionable pin positions and a swirling wind proved to be a day for proper ball striking and a surgeon’s touch with the putter - albeit a beautiful sunny autumnal day with warm temperatures 😎
Professional Kris Nicol (Fraserburgh Golf Club)
had all the answers today with an excellent round of 69(-3). Kris won by one shot from local +2 handicap amateur player Adam Giles (Murcar Links Golf Club) with an equally impressive round of 70(-2).

      North East Alliance 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿⛳️
Finally the Alliance has returned to Hazlehead No.1 (Mackenzie course) arguably one of the best inland layouts in the North East. Poor weather delayed the return in previous recent years.
On a day of strong gusting winds and very cool temperatures it was Peterhead Golf Club’s Professional Philip McLean showing his class with a six stroke victory.
Phillip shot a superb round of 67(-3) to win from Professional Liam Waldron (Royal Aberdeen Golf Club) and amateur player Stewart Finnie (Caledonian Golf Club) both shooting 73(+3).
The Alliance committee and players would like to extend thanks to ClubSport Aberdeen and Hazlehead Golf Club for a warm welcome to their superb Golf course.
