The general manager of a golf club that has been put up for sale says it’s “business as normal”.

Spey Bay Golf Club in Moray was put up for sale for offers over £1.5 million due to its current owners wishing to explore ventures in the USA.

Established in 1907, the historic club was once frequented by Ramsay MacDonald - the UK's first Labour Prime Minister.

General Manager Bert MacKay said that, despite the uncertainty regarding the future ownership of the club, for now it is "business as normal".

Mr MacKay said that when the course was bought by Links DAO, an American cryptocurrency-funded golfing community, the greens were 80 per cent moss, but now they boast "some of the

best
greens in Moray".

Furthermore, memberships have tripled since they were bought three and a half years ago to 329 as of September 2026.

Spey Bay Golf Club has made significant moves to diversify its offerings since being bought over by Links DAO, with the clubhouse holding themed evenings such as curry nights, Sunday dinners and a Boxing-Day rounders competition on their fairway - all to generate community conversation about the club and to entice new members.

They are also working in partnership with Milne's High School in Fochabers to support their golf team by hosting quiz nights and a scramble to help them

raise
funds to enter competitions and buy uniforms.
